Neighborhoods are the building blocks of the region, shaping its character and affecting the lives of its residents. It is where “community” begins. To support and further this thinking, the first annual Neighborhood Summit was held in September 2009 –a day-long event designed for residents from 10 metro Atlanta counties to connect and discuss a common, inclusive agenda for strengthening the region. Initiated by The Civic League for Regional Atlanta, the Neighborhood Summit was co-developed by citizen groups and regional nonprofits to meet, exchange ideas and explore opportunities for collaboration. Participants attend workshops, enjoy exhibits, and network with peer community leaders and elected officials.
The purpose of the Neighborhood Summit is strengthening neighborhoods while building a collaborative regional voice. What makes this Summit so important is the diversity of attendees from 23 counties in the region and from each constituent group invited to participate in addressing regional issues and sharing solutions. Topics were developed based on actual input from grassroots community meetings focused on regionally relevant priorities.
Thanks to our 2015 Summit Ambassadors!
The Neighborhood Summit Ambassadors are volunteers asked to assist with the promotion and success of the summit by sharing their intellectual, reputational and social capital to ensure neighborhood and community leaders learn about the issues affecting our region and tools to help support the work they are doing every day. Ambassadors play a vital role in the success of the Neighborhood Summit and are selected because they are recognized by The Community Foundation and their community as being an important contributor to their community and the region.
